Welcome to the City of Forks
Forks is a pretty small city, not to say tiny, located at the very west side of the Olympic National Park in Washington State, in Clallam County. It has around 3200 people. It became recently famous because of the movies and books of the series Twilight which involve a love story between a high school girl and a vampire. And like most of the people that come to visit Forks, that is the reason why I came here. Because of its new popularity, the Motel are often full and are also very expensive! When I arrived, I was first surprised because the city was really small compare to what I was excepting, but I have been much more surprised when the girl from the first motel I came for a room told me that there were only one room left for 120$!!
There are actually 2 motels in the center of Forks, and the minimum price you will find will be around 80$. Which is really expensive when you travel alone and you don't want to pay too much. Fortunately, there is a third motel, located at the south entrance of Forks. If it looks a little bit less nice, the price becomes slightly more affordable, 54$ (tax included). But if you tell the manager that you have a tent (which was my case) he will let you sleep on the garden behind the motel, which has really nice grass, for free! Awesome, no? He will also let you use the bathroom of the motel, and you will have to pay 3$ for a shower. There is no wifi here, but if you go to the Library of the city, in the center of Forks, you can have 30 minutes of internet access for free.
So Forks and Twilight. You will quickly notice that every store of the city uses the Twilight thing to try to catch more clients. As a consequence, you will find the Bellalasagna at the Italian Pizza, the Bella Burger, the Edward mixture cocktail, the Jacob favorite's coffee... A lot of different agencies propose a tour of the city to see every key parts of the movie. But remember that Forks is a very small city, and then you can see all the different buildings of the movie (Bella's car, the Hospital, the Police Station, The outfitter store...) in less that two hours by walking.
The Sully's Burger fast food, at the north entrance of Forks, propose very good burgers meals for cheap prices and it was my favorite place!
Keep in mind here that the weather in Forks is really rainy. I stayed there only for one night because it was too cold for camping and too rainy (the water had the pleasure to get in my tent and wet my shoes...). And honestly, you don't need more than one day to visit everything in Forks. Last but not least, the Forks Transit Center is located also close to the city center. You will find a big supermarket close to the south motel I spoke about.
