I arrived at Olympia around 7:00PM. I have chosen to stay 2 nights at the youth hostel "Chez Cascadia", which is actually the only youth hostel of the city. It is located up town, on the other side of the bridge in the west side. The exact location is:
Chez Cascadia
323 Milroy St. NW
Olympia, WA 98502
+1 (360) 570-0823
info(at)chezcascadia.org
You can find below a "google map" that gives you the directions. When I say up town, it specifically means "up". It is a 15-20 minutes walk long to get to the hostel, and if you have heavy backpack bags, I encourage you to take the bus. They are 3 or 4 different buses that go near the hostel, the numbers 41, 45, 48 and 43. The closer stop is the 41, and the ticket is 1$.
The youth hostel is actually a house, that has 15 beds in two different rooms. It is 18$ a night, which is much cheaper than any motel in the city. The host people are very welcoming. It has free wifi, shower, vegetarian kitchen and a pleasant living room.
Olympia is the capital of the state of Washington. I can not tell you why. It is a beautiful but not too big town, ideal for a one-day-stand. The favorite and principal attraction of the city is the Capitol campus, where you can find the Capitol that you can seen from everywhere in Olympia. It is on the campus that you will find the Tourism Office that will give you all the information you need. (and especially a bus transit route map, very useful!). There is also a local shuttle that connects the north and south part of the downtown. It is free and cover each stop it makes every 15 minutes. There is the second biggest organic farm market of the state, the first being Pike Market in Seattle. I didn't have the chance to see it because it is only open between Thursday and Sunday.
You can get a Bus Schedule book in every bus. Downtown Olympia, you will find a lot of restaurants that provide every kind of food, such as asian, mexican, french, seafood...
